We are now in lovely sunny Townsville after leaving Tinaroo Friday. Trip went well arriving in Townsville friday evening around 6.00 pm after driving through a lot of rain between the Tableland and Cardwell. Have booked in for a week at The Lakes Caravan Park near the city.
We spent the weekend sussing out the local markets - Willows and the Showground and looking around the town. Have decided not to pursue either of these markets as outlets but are considering trying out the Strand markets this coming Friday night. Townsville seems to have a huge excess of retail space with Shopping centres around each and every corner with the same specialty shops, franchises etc. As a result the city seems to be very de-centralised and quite sprawling which makes it difficult to find a hub of quality eateries and cafes as we have in Cairns. The CBD mall also has a lot of construction work going on which makes it less appealing at the moment.
